Weldall: from workshop paperwork to a fully digital factory
How digital workflows and factory-floor screens replaced paper that could not survive the shop floor, taking a fabrication business fully paperless with every job on a tablet.
The Challenge
Paperwork and a factory floor don't mix
Weldall's jobs ran on paper, and paper doesn't survive long in a fabrication environment. Documents were being destroyed by welding or getting too dirty to use, and employees were coming up the stairs every five minutes to track down paperwork.
The team also knew software was new territory for them. They had plenty of ideas but didn't know what to implement first or what would matter most to the business.
What We Built
A roadmap first, then the features that mattered most
Rather than diving straight into a build, we sat down with Weldall and laid everything out, turning their ideas into a prioritised roadmap based on what would serve the business most. Features have been delivered in that order, and the roadmap keeps growing and iterating as the system beds in.
The result is a digital workflow platform that runs the whole business from computers and tablets. Everything on a job can be viewed and edited from a pad, and screens in each of the three factories give the shop floor instant access to risk assessments, workflows and the health and safety documents they need for every job. Along the way, our project manager has worked hands-on with the team, explaining each step and often finding quicker, better ways of doing things.
The Outcome
A paperless operation with total visibility
There's now no paperwork involved at all from the start of a job to the finish. Everything is automated in the background, and the team has a clear view of everything in front of and behind them, at any point in the day, from a click of a button.
